A Walk In The Woods

There was a light snow falling on Boxing Day this year. Puffy Christmas flakes just floating down……ahhhh! A perfect day for a walk in the woods.
We have “woods”a five minute drive from our house. And the best part is, not only can you hear the woodpeckers and such, but if you listen closely, you’ll catch the musical hum of the city traffic a few blocks away.

I’m suspicious of any kind of space that’s called “woods”. You're just asking for trouble by going in there with your bare face hanging out. i.e. Denton Woods. Ever heard of it? Well try reading R.D. Wingfield and you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about - any of the "Frost" novels -
A young girl is reported missing the day before her birthday, and her boyfriend appears to have disappeared as well. The search only turns up unrelated body parts in Denton Woods.

Told you.

This isn't Denton Woods but they all look the same..... a lot of trees.

Anyway, I did brave the woods for a short time on Boxing Day and I have to confess, it was pretty nice.  A big dog was out playing and knocked me flat on my ass, but you know, it's the risk you take in these places.

There were some pretty cool looking trees. And snow.  There was snow.  What else?  Oh yes, a photographer.  Every time I go to the woods I see this photographer.

Um....I guess that's it. Woods, snow, photographer......big dog.....yup....that's it. Then I went home and had a glass of wine to calm my nerves. I didn't have nightmares or anything so I'll probably go there again.  I'll let you know.........

The only thing missing was cross country skis. You might have been able to distance the photographer but they would have made it difficult to get up after the unfortunate incident with the dog. That story illustrates why the world would bd a better place if only more dogs were Cocked Spaniel's, although can also bowl over children up to about 40 pounds(which some other number in kilograms, but not nearly as impressive a number).

  2. I'm sure Emily would agree with you re the dog situation. Knocking down children 40 lbs. or so must be a lot of fun for her. I can knock them down up to 50 but people really get ticked when I try.

  3. BAD DOG!!!

I have never read any of the Frost series but just went over to Amazon and they sound interesting. Guess I will have to give them a read.

Hope you are having a good holiday season...Happy New Year!!!

  4. The Frost books were made into a BBC series. It's rare, but I liked them even better than the books.

Here we are in 2014! Imagine! Hope you are enjoying the holidays and wishing you all the best in the New Year (this year now).
