Halloween! Whoooooooooo!

Halloween is coming up and kids are getting ready to go out and get FREE CANDY. This must be the kid equivalent to winning the lottery. All you have to do is ask, and strangers GIVE you candy! It’s fantastic!

When I was a kid my mother used to go through our loot and re-treat all the candy that would pull our fillings out. Basically the hard to chew kisses. Let the mother down the block worry about it – maybe her kids had tougher teeth. (Bet her kids had more fun too if they were allowed to keep the kisses). There was always one house we could count on to give us a toffee apple which we were allowed to keep. Guess the “apple” part made it seem healthy.

Did you think I wouldn't sneak in some reference to Paris?
Costumes were my favorite part of Halloween and I had some pretty great homemade ones. An angel one year, a witch another. Wonder if these were chosen based on my behavior at the time? (Yes, that’s witch with a “w”. I was just a kid)! I remember several years the weather was so cold we had to wear our winter clothes under our costumes. Not too bad for the angels and ghosts, not so good for Superman and cats. We all ended up looking like the Pillsbury Dough Boy with all our padding.

Halloween here is pretty big. The stores are decorated and people go all out with pumpkins, lights, sound effects and every haunted house/graveyard theme you can think of but…..

I’m surprised that this isn’t considered a “no-no” these days trying to frighten little kids and all. Maybe the houses should be rated:

G for General pumpkins

PG for Pumpkins and Ghouls

R for Rattling chains, graveyards and vampires at the door.

Happy Halloween!

  1. We always love Halloween too! There's an over the way neighbor who really goes all out for the kids...well, the older kids...and it was always funny when the little kids went over there and, if he scared them, his wife would yell at him! Scary for the kids, funny for the adults!

  2. LOL! The adults need a good laugh too!
